A stretch of abandoned railway is finding new purpose thanks to a group of local volunteers. Over six weekends this spring, roughly forty residents cleared brush, laid gravel, and installed benches along a two-mile path connecting the park to the river overlook.
The project cost little beyond donated materials and sweat. "This land just sat here for decades," said organizer Tom Blaisdell. "Now families walk it every evening." A ribbon-cutting is planned for the end of the month, with a potluck to follow.
Future phases may extend the trail another mile if funding allows.
